What is the difference between thread counts?

Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical weaves per square inch. An example would be 300 thread count bed sheets or pillowcases have 150 horizontal and 150 vertical weaves. Bed sheets or pillowcases with a 500 thread count have 250 horizontal and 250 vertical weaves. What this means is that the higher the thread count the softer and more durable a piece of fabric will generally be.

Generally you would want the highest thread count available. You are able to feel the difference between a 300, 400 or 500 thread count fabric compared to a 1000 or 1500 thread count fabric.
